The First of Octember

Coralyn brought yet another book to me to read for her.  The author, of course, was Dr. Suess.  This particular story: Please Try to Remember the First of Octember.  As usual, many thoughts went through my head as I read to her.

A little boy asks you what you would like, anything at all.  A kangaroo?  A playhouse or pool?  Take a trip, in a ship?  Rockets to shoot?  Bombs to burst?  He promises, "You'll get all that you want.  You just write out your list."

He explains that you won't get these things in March -- too dusty.  Or April -- too gusty.  May, September, October, and December don't work well for his schedule either.  Nope, only the first of Octember.  But "if you'll wait till the month is just right," then you are guaranteed that all your wishes will come true.

Oh yes, the little boy assures you once more as the book ends, "EVERYTHING'S YOURS on the First of Octember!"

Dr. Suess closes, "On the First of Octember?  Thank you!  I'll remember."

Think I will too!

My list won't be all that long, but I'll go ahead and get a start on it now, while I wait for the first of Octember to roll around.

A new roof
Someone who wants to buy our house at full price
A new house at a price we can afford

Yep, that will be it for now.  I think that will do.  Like I said, short and sweet.

Now, if only there really was a First of Octember, we would be all set!
